How To Find An Internet Marketing Coach

You’re made the wise decision to hire an Internet marketing coach, but how do you find the right one for you?

There are two main ways to get to know different coaches, their success rates, and their styles before you invest the money to hire one:

  1. Use the Internet. You can use the ‘net not only to find coaches, but to learn about and evaluate them as well. And, of course, the Internet itself is a virtually free resource.
  1. Attend online marketing seminars or conferences. This method will cost you some money, but it’s a great way to meet and evaluate Internet mentors face to face. In addition, seminars and conferences offer you value in and of themselves. They give you a chance to learn more about running your business and also are a way to network with other marketing professionals just like you. Finally, they’re a business tax deduction, so you can combine business with a deductible vacation.

What criteria should you use when looking for your Internet mentor? Here are 5 things to consider as you evaluate possible coaches.

  1. Has this person been a success in the offline world? Virtually all of the marketing tactics that work on the Internet have been “imported,” so to speak, from the offline world. You need to know people and how to communicate with them in order to be a successful marketing professional. The Internet hasn’t changed this fact—it’s just made it possible to communicate with exponentially more people at once.
  1. Does their teaching style match your learning style? If you’re an auditory learner you won’t want to spend hours slogging through long papers, and if you learn best by reading you won’t want to spend your time in front of videos.
  1. How many facets of Internet marketing does the person know well as demonstrated by her success with them? If you’re looking for nuts-and-bolts advice on several strategies, you don’t want to work with someone who has hired other people to do those things for her. Likewise, if you have the money to invest in people to take care of the details and want to be the “conductor” of your business, you’ll want a successful strategist rather than a more hands-on coach.
  1. How do this coach’s online businesses stand in search rankings? Someone who can’t get themselves to the first page of a Google search won’t be able to help you get there.
  1. How many online successes has he had? Does he have a track record of marketing success that’s also current? Strategies that worked 5 years ago may not work today. You want to hire a coach who has proved to be as adaptable to changing conditions as you have to be.

While it can take a little time to find and hire the right Internet marketing coach for you, the happy fact is that doing so is a pretty straightforward process. Make sure to do your due diligence. Use the Internet, marketing events, and word of mouth. Be ready to ask questions of prospective coaches and to verify their answers. Most of all make sure that the coach you finally choose is someone you’re compatible with and who will be invested in your unique goals and dreams.

The right Internet marketing coach can literally help you triple your income. That kind of payoff deserves a bit of investment up front.
