I have Hepatitis C and Interferon did not work..?
I’m 16 years old, I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, and I’ve been taking the interferon and Rebavirin Treatment for a year 48 weeks .. and It didn’t work. I got tested for the count thing half way and it was 300,000 but now I got tested it was 700,000. How did it increase while I was talking the treatment.. I went to my doctor, he told me to stop taking the treatment and that a new treatment will be in the market in 1 years time. During this time he said I should take supplements and vitamins that will support the liver until the new treatment is in the market.
Will the virus increase a lot during this time? Will I die? Will I need a liver transplant? is it possible that something bad will happen to me during this time?
I mean Ive read that the treatment (interferon and ribavbrin) works for 50% of people.. what about the other 50%(like me), what happens when the treatment doesn’t work?

I took interferon and ribavarin for 6 months when my doctor took me off it. I started seeing another doctor and he did a liver biopsy and I learned that I was stage 2 fibrosis and I only had hep c for a year. Not to scare you but, Hep C is not always a slow progressing disease. I was then put on a medication called Infergen and also the Ribavarin. Infergen is a daily shot and I took both the shot and pills for 1 1/2 years. I have had a non detectable viral load for a total of 3 1/2 years. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about the infergen. I know that it’s relatively new. It’s not an easy treatment…I found it to be a lot worse than the regular interferon (weekly shot).
