Is programming for the new video game systems harder than programing for the older systems?
Please be or seriously know a programmer. Please have some documented back up for your opinion, like some articles or forums where programmers voice their opinion one way or the other.
(basically with the advancement of technology aren’t the tasks needed in developing video games easier or not? yes I know there are new tasks and a lot more work is required but honestly the old school had less to work with in every possible way, if anything maybe they had more time b/c the market wasn’t controlled soley by the big money hogs….but i don’t know tell me your opinion
Thanks….
I am systems programmer (NOT games specifically), but the analogy will stand anyway…
Since I first stated I built a (fairly large) library of common functions and classes/methods that I can use and re-use nearly all the time, this library is being improved and added to all the time, but I no longer need to write [for example] a communication class every time I need to send data over the network, I can use my existing code and improve it if needed…
The same applies to ANY programming, if something works well nobody is going to re-write it just because they started new job…
Ever wondered why WinVista requires the computer with (at least) twice the RAM and hard drive capacity compared to what was needed for WinXP? I remember Win98 which needed only 32MB of RAM and about 100MB of HDD space and Win3.1 that could run with 640KB of RAM…
