what are the 5 best value and most reliable laptops on the market today? please list and explain?

im working right now and saving money to buy a new laptop before school starts in september. im going to be a junior but i will be taking many college courses so i feel i need to buy a good value and reliable laptop that i can use to organize my schoolwork. i also want one that is fast and not too bulky and is good for game performance. i don’t want to spend more than $1200 for the laptop itself. also what does it mean if a wireless card is built in? and how am i going to get the internet onto it? do i need a wireless router? i already have a desktop computer that is running on dsl right now but i am getting optimum online soon. advice please.

2) HP
3) Mac
4) Gateway
5) Dell

I listed those in order of greatness and reliability. The first two are definitely the most reliable on the market. They both have great configurations and you can custom build a notebook from either one on their respective websites. I put Mac at #3 because I think they are overpriced for the hardware they are built with. Also, their have been many cases of their notebooks cracking and splitting within 6 months of purchase. The problem with their cases is said to be minimal and due to an issue with the plastic manufacture but it is something to take into consideration. I put Gateway at #4 because they do not allow custom configuration on their website which I think is doing a great disservice to their customers. Also, their configurations are not that great. I have a Gateway currently. I haven’t had any hardware problems with it (I have had it for 2 years) since I got it so I would have to say their computers are pretty reliable. And Dell comes in at 5 because they are cheap and their XPS line is overpriced.
